Roads Board Wants Hagley Park Route
The National Roads Board yesterday, when it met in Wellington, decided to investigate linking Blenheim road and Moorhouse avenue by a road through Hagley Park.
The board instructed its engineer (Mr L. C. Malt) to collect data, suggest a route and to have traffic statistics of the intersections such a route would avoid available for its next meeting.
When the proposal was referred to them last evening the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr George Manning) urged the early consultation of citizens, the president of the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early Settlers’ Association (Mr J. L. Hewland) recalled his members’ outright opposition, and the president of the Automobile Association, Canterbury (Mr E. R. Casbolt) gave a personal opinion that the proposed road was the only logical solution.
