PURCHASE OF ELECTRAS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 21. Australia’s recent decision to buy American Lochheed Electra aircraft was not reached lightly, said the Australian Minister of External Affairs, Mr R. G. Casey, in Wellington today. “The question was hammered out in the Cabinet room for hours,” he said. “All our instincts favoured the Comet but we were eventually worn down by the technical and financial arguments supporting the Electras. It was the economics of the case that won Lockheed the decision,” he said.
