QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE
Bicycles From Czechoslovakia (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 21. The Minister of Customs (Mr Boord) was asked by Mr W. B. Tennent (Opposition, Manawatu) at question time in the House of Representatives today to say if it was correct Woolworths, Ltd., had been granted a licence to import bicycles from Czechoslovakia while other cycle agents had had their licences cut 50 per cent. Mr W. J. Scott (Opposition, Rodney) asked the Minister if the Government intended to issue a licence to the National Beekeepers’ Association to enable it to distil gin from honeymead. Mr C. G. E. Harker (Opposition, Hawke’s Bay) asked the Minister of Works (Mr Watt) when he intended to bring before the house for full discussion the report of the Select Committee on soil conservation. “Some of the recommendations made by the committee for amendments to the legislation will soon be matters of urgency,” said Mr Harker in a note to the question.
Mr G. A. Walsh (Opposition. Tauranga) asked the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Holloway) whether to correct the gross trade unbalance between France and New Zealand he would indicate to France what goods would be licensed for importation into New Zealand through normal trade channels.
