Salmon
Sir. —Several months ago I wrote for some information from the South Island salmon trap committee. It did not reply! Since then the Marine Department has reported the sales and libera-
tions of salmon at Highbank for last season. Could I ask the department for the information I could not get from the South Island salmon trap committee? i.e., the comparative figures for fish liberated and sold from Highbank from 1955 to 1958; the average weight: where and how were the fish liberated?—Yours, etc., D. J. HUGHEY. August 8, 1958. [The Secretary for Marine (Mr G. L. O’Halloran) said that the following list showed the number of salmon marketed, the number of salmon released and the average weight of salmon taken at Highbank during the past four years, as required by the correspondent. In the 1955 season 2681 fish were marketed, 435 were salvaged and the average weight was 10.21 b; in 1956, 3006 fish were marketed, 384 salvaged and the a. erage weight was 9.11 b; in 1957, 593 fish were marketed, 300 salvaged and the average weight was 7.11 b; in 1958, 203 fish have been marketed, none have been salvaged, and the average weight has been 7.81b.l
