POTATO SUPPLY POSITION

Outcome Uncertain - A survey conducted at a meeting of the Dominion Potato Committee in Christchurch yesterday showed that the supply of potatoes In New Zealand in the current season could be "a 1000 or 2000 tons either way”—that is, a slight surplus or a slight shortage. A nine-degree frost In the Pukekohe district this week affected at least 400 acres of the early northern crop and will delay the harvesting of this area by at least two weeks. It will also reduce the yield. At present, however. It is uncertain how the frost-damaged area will recover. An area of 2200 acres is under potatoes in the Pukekohe district this year compared with 1800 acres last year.
