MRE.P. H. BURBURY Mr Edward Percy Harold Burbury, who died in Hastings this week at the age of 76, was the former owner of the “Sherwood” sheep station. Waiau, and the “Glynn Wye” station. He was keenly interested in the Lewis Pass road, x and was one of the main advocates of a permanent road which could be used throughout the year. A former director of the New Zealand Glass Company and of the North Canterbury Sheepfarmers’ Co-operative Freezing Company, Ltd., Mr Burbury served on the Am.uri County Council for a term, and was a past-president of the Amuri Agricultural and Pastoral Association. He was also a former member of the executive of the Canterbury Sheepowners’ Union. Born at Oamaru, Mr Burbury was educated at Waitaki Boys’ High School, Christ’s College, and the Wanganui Collegiate School. He is survived by four sons and three daughters.
MR A. W. TAYLOR • (New Zealand Press Association) • BLENHEIM, August 8. A prominent Blenheim businessman and a member of the firefighting service for; many years. Mr Albert William Taylor died at his home last night. Aged 70 years, Mr Taylor was in the fancy goods business in Blenheim for many years, opening his Blenheim branch about 1920. He served on the Blenheim Borough Council for 18J years and was Deputy-Mayor from 1938 to 1941. His greatest interest was in the fire service, with which he completed nearly 40 years, practically all of it in the Blenheim Volunteer Fire Brigade. He shared, with one other fireman the distinction of being the first recipient of a new honour created by the Queen, the Queen’s Fire Service Medal for distinguished service. For 28 years, Mr Taylor was chief officer of the Blenheim brigade. Mr Taylor was also the older of the Coronation Medal. He was on active *service in World War I. Rongotai Opening.— The opening ceremony for the new Wellington Airport at Rongotai has* been jset tentatively for Saturday, April 4, 1959, the first Saturday after the target completion date of April 1. » y
