Nuttall Disqualified For Two Years

MELBOURNE, August 8. Stipendiary stewards today disqualified for two years the wellknown owner, Mr F. H. Slarrten, the trainer. C. Wilson,’ and the New Zealand jockey, K. Nuttall. They were disqualified for improper practice in connexion with the running of High Classic in the Cooee Handicap at Moonee Valley on Juy 26. Hjgh Classic was also disqualified for a similar period. Mr Slamen owns High Classic with Mrs R. F. Milgate, who is the wife of a prominent bookmaker, Mr R. Milgate. The stewards took no action against Milgate or Mrs Milgate. Mr Slamen, Wilsbn, and Nuttall all said they would appeal against the decision. In the Cooee Handicap at ..Moonee Valley, High Classic dead-heated for third with Sianna and started at 33 to 1 after drifting from 12 to 1.. Nuttall was riding High Classic for the first time. Mr Slamen, Wilson, and Nuttall all seem’ed stunned as they left the stewards’ room. Wilson was too up-, set to speak to the press. He was beaten by the light-weight, Opulent, and was criticised for riding.an ill-judged race. Nuttall came back in the spring and again rode Dalray in weight-for-age wins. He won the 1952 Metropolitan on Dalray and came to Melbourne to ride him in the Melbourne Two days before the cup, Nuttall was preparing to ride the champion in the L. K. S. MacKinnon Stakes when he was told that he would not be wanted, as the mount had been given to the local jockey, W. WiH liamison. , ' This move caused one of the biggest sensations for years. Nuttall decided to settle In Australia in April of this year. He was suspended for one month on May 10 at Moonee Valley for careless riding on Fairstead. Mi* Slamen owns a large string of hoi-ses and some of them have brought off big betting plunges. He is well known in all States of Australia. C. Wilson was foreman' for his father, C. Wilson, before being granted a permit to train at the beginning of the 1953-54 racing season. He has trained horses for Mr Slamen, as did his father. Wilson has 14 horses in training at present.
