APPLICATIONS, accompanied by documentary evidence of examinations passed, two testimonials and copy of birth certificate, are invited up to FRIDAY, AUGUST 15, 1958, for entry td a Teachers’ Training College under Divisions A, C, Homecraft or Commercial. Candidates must be at least seventeen years of age on February 28, -1959, or sixteen years nine months if they have had a year in the sixth form. DIVISION A:

The minimum educational qualification for admission in Division A is a pass in the School Certificate or University Entrance Examination. Applications from students sitting the School Certificate Examination this year will also be considered. Candidates who have already passed the required examination will, of course, be given preference in selection. DIVISION C: An applicant for admission in Division C must b’e a graduate of a recognised University or have, as a matriculated student, satistactorily completed a three years’ course in Agriculture or Home Science at a College recognised by the University of New Zealand, or have obtained some other educational qualification that in the opinion of the Director Of Education is equivalent thereto. Candidates for admission as students of Division C may submit their application in anticipation of their ootaining a University degree by the time the Training College opens. All candidates who hold Post-Primary Teaching bursaries should indicate this on their application. HOMECRAFT COURSE: The Homecraft Course is distinct from the Training Course and from the University Home Science Course leading to a degree or diploma. There are, however, affiliations with both those courses. Applicants should measure up td the general standards of the other succesful candidates and will be selected for their interest in Homecraft subjects. Preference will _be given to girls who have taken a good range of Homecraft subjects at a post-primary school. The minimum educational qualification is a pass in the School Certificate or University Entrance Examination at the x time of • application. Those who are successful in their applications will have an excellent opportunity of obtaining positions as Domestic Science Instructresses in the various Education districts throughout New Zealand. The Homecraft Course is of three years’ duration, made up of (a) a course of two years at the Dunedin Teachers’ College, and (b) .a period of twelve months as a Probationary Assistant teaching Homecraft in an approved school (•post-primary or manual training school). COMMERCIAL COURSE: Students for this course will be selected from girls who—(a) have passed the School Certificate Examination (including Commercial subjects) and are in Form VI preparing for Endorsed School Certificate or University Entrance at the time of application, or (b) have completed the Senior School of Commerce course at the Technical School in Auckland or Dunedin or a similar course elsewhere. The course will comprise two years at Auckland Teachers’ College followed by a year as a Probationary Assistant. It will involve instruction in commercial subjects and in the technique of teaching them. In addition, English, Education, Core Mathematics and such other subjects as may be considered desirable, will be included. A Commercial Teachers’ Certificate will be issued on the completion of the probationary assistantship and this will be accepted for teaching in a postprimary school. Consideration will also be given to applications from- EX-SERVICE-MEN who have had not less than three years’ sound secondary education. Candidates will require to be interviewed by the Selection Committee at times to be arranged at convenient centres, due notice of which will be given. Applicants' should bear in mind that the above does not refer to the Education Department’s Special Training Scheme for the training of teachers to meet the acute shortage.
