Y.M.C.A. Holiday Activities
When parents ring .the Y.M.C.A. during the next school holidays to ask what they can do to amuse their children, they will find that any number of activities have been arranged. The 700 boys and 350 girls in Y.M.C.A. classes will be catered for during all the holidays, and other children will be able to join in during the first week. During the first week, the programme will consist of a reliability bicycle trail, a hobbies exhibition. a kite-flying contest, a stamp swapping day, and a street day appeal. The bicycle trial on August 25 is expected to be very popular, and will include an inspection by a traffic officer, then a timing test on the way to New Brighton, three flag tests on the beach, a sand trial, a coasting test along Humphries drive, a hill climb up Huntsbury, and a water splash. For the girls, there is a tournament at Hutt Valley and an exchange of 20 girls with the Invercargill association. A senior boys’ team will go to Hamilton during the second week for the national Y.M.C.A. gymnasium championships.
