Grading Of Harriers
£ Some modification of the present system of grading used for interSub harrier races in Canterbury seems desirable in view of the practices adopted by some clubs, which have complied with the feasting laws but not with the ipirit of them. f The present system requires clubs graded A to enter a team of at least six runners in an A grade race before being permitted tb / enter runners in the B section. Clubs graded B may enter individuals or teams in the A trade races if they desire. As ftiir runners count for points towards their team's score, some A grade clubs have successfully circumvented the rules by entering five of their best runners in the A grade, thus allowing them in effect one spare runner in case of injury or lapse of form by any pne of the team, and making up the sixth man by using one of their weaker runners. By doing this, the clubs have been able "to strengthen the quality of their B grade representatives. j An alternative would be to replace the present grading on an .over-all team basis with a system of grading the individual rurv hers according to their ability.
