SURVEYING COURSE AT OTAGO

Decision By N.Z. Senate (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, August 6 A diploma course in surveying will be Established at the University of Otago, it was decided by the Senate of the University of New Zealand today. Opposition came from Auckland and Wellington members. Under the present system, a young man wishing to become a surveyor must have University Entrance, must serve four years as an office cadet, and must sit 12 examinations, said Dr. F. G. Soper. Vice-Chancellor of Otago University. ‘‘There is a very high failure rate ,in the written examinations, and, usually, it takes about six years to get through, 1 ’ he said.
