Migrant Housing Plans
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 4.
British migrants will be able to arrange their Australian housing before they leave England, if the plans of two Sydney companies are realised. A director of one firm, Mr Arthur Thomas, said yesterday that he soon would visit England, America and Switzerland to seek finance for his firm’s scheme.
“In our plan a two-bedroom timber and fibro home would cost £2400 sterling and a three-bed-room home £2475 sterling, including the land and legal expenses. ‘‘The migrant would pay £4OO sterling deposit in England. We also will sponsor the migrant,” said Mr Thomas. Mr E. P. Nelson, of the other firm, who migrated to Australia from England four years ago, said he soon would leave for England. “An English building society is helping with the finance,” he said. ‘‘lf migrants give us two weeks’ notice of their sailing date we will have their homes ready when they arrive. The migrants will buy the blocks of land, but will pay no deposit on the homes. “The cost of the homes will be from £A2OOO to £A2400. Repayments will range from £A3 to £A3 8s 9d a week at bank interest,” he said.
