ARAHURA DREDGE

Salvage Of Buckets Successful (“The Press” Special Service) HOKITIKA, July 3. It is expected that the Arahura dredge will resume operations on Saturday. An attempt on Tuesday to raise the 64-bucket line still on the bottom of the dredge pond failed when the rope parted as it was being threaded through the buckets preparatory to lifting. It was necessary for the diver to descend again, and this morning the first bucket chain was successfully taken over the bottom tumbler.

These buckets have yet to be connected to the other 38 which were recovered earlier this week.

They can be built on 50 perches —little more than half as big again as the average suburban house section. On this lay-out the frontage is 105 ft and the depth 130 ft.

Each flat comprises three bedrooms, a 21ft x 12ft living-family room, a kitchenette, laundry and bathroom-lavatory. There is a wardrobe built into each bedroom.

The back door opens off the living-family room onto the courtyard. At the point where the four courtyards adjoin is a partitioned tool shed, with access from each yard. The front door opens directly to the outside, and is protected by a porch. Room for the parking of three or more cars can be provided at the rear. This block is the first of its type to be built in the South Island.
