ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT Embankment (Lincoln): Nonsense. It is you and not us who have not been watching the lineouts very closely. E. Hern has not always played at No. 4 since 1953. Under the Canterbury forward selector (Mr J. G. Rankin), from 1953, Hern played at Nos. 2, 7 and 8 in line-outs. Under Mr N. J. McPhail, who succeeded Mr Rankin as forward coach, he alternated between Nos. 2 and 4, depending on what play was involved. If the correspondent was at Lancaster Park last Wednesday he no doubt will have noticed that Hern was played at No. 2.—Sports Ed.
