NEW ENGLISH SPORTS CAR

A new small English sports car for the enthusiast who likes to carry out routine maintenance tasks himself was announced recently. It is the Austin Healey Sprite, a smaller brother to the popular Austin Healey 100. The new car is powered by a 948 c.c. engine, which gives it a maximum speed of over 80 miles an hour and a fuel consumption of about 30 miles a gallon. The two-seater Sprite has a roomy cockpit, a four-speed gearbox, an independent front-wheel suspension by wishbones and coil springs. The whole front of the body is hinged, so that the owner can work on the engine, suspension, brakes, and steering easily. The tail of the car is also in one piece, and the . luggage boot is reached by moving the seats forward. The hood is also stored in the boot.

The car is easily recognisable by its bulbous headlamps which protrude from the mudguard fairings.
