Swimming McFadden Breaks Two Records
(New Zeaiana Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 23. In a 1650-yard freestyle swim in the Tepid Baths this evening, C. McFadden broke one New Zealand record by more than a minute and another by more than 18 seconds. McFadden’s time for the 1650 yards was 18min 53.2 sec—compared with his own previous best of 19min 56.7 sec. On the way to this mark he broke F. R. Lucas's record for the 380 yards by 18.2 sec with a time of lOmin 2sec. Miss Phillipa Gould equalled her national senior and intermediate record for the 100 yards backstroke with 65sec, and broke her 110 yards senior mark of 72.55ec by seventenths of a second.
Miss Kay Sawyers swam 110 yards breaststroke in 86.9 sec. This bettered her own senior record by I.7sec.
