LAND SURVEYING COURSE

Victoria University Proposal (New Zealand Press Association > WELLINGTON, June 23. The council of the Victoria University of Wellington today adopted a report from its professorial board recommending the introduction of a university course in land surveying. The New Zealand Institute of Surveyors had asked for a report from the university on the desirability and feasibility of establishing a diploma course at the university. On the basis of overseas experience the professorial board thought that a three year bachelor of science degree was better than a twoyear diploma course. It was also felt that it should be possible to take the subjects for the first year at any of the four universities and the rest of the course to be concentrated at one university as is already done in medicine, dentistry and agriculture. Mr C. S. Plank stronglv disagreed with the report. He felt that an adequate university surveying course was already catered for within the framework of the civil engineering degreet. Wheat the institute really wanted was a sub-professional course and therefore nont within the scope of the university.
