TURBINE TANKER LAUNCHED

The 32.000 deadweight ton turbine tankship, Caltex Eindhoven' was launched on June 19 at the shipyard of Hitachi Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Innoshima. Japan. Mrs J. M. Voss, wife of the Caltex shareholders’ representative in Japan, sponsored the ship, the twenty-fourth to be launched by Caltex companies since 1950.

TTie vessel is scheduled to be delivered in October to N.V. Nederlandsche Pacific Tankvaart Maatschappij, one of the Caltex group of companies. She will increase the Caltex fleet under the Dutch flag to nine owned tankers, totalling more than 190.000 deadweight tons. With a carrying capacity of more

than 275.000 barrels, the Caltex Eindhoven will have an overall length of 660 feet, a beam of 89 feet, and a loaded draft of 33 feet 10J inches. She will be powered by steam turbines of 16,500 horsepower fitted with reduction gears, and is designed to make a speed of 17 knots.

She will trade mainly between the Middle East and Holland, transporting crude oil to the Caltex refinery at Parnis. BANANAS ARRIVE The Matua arrived at Lyttelton yesterday from Apia and Suva with 28,000 cases of bananas, 20,000 of which are for Lyttelton and the rest for Wellington.
