The leading team, Beckenham, suffered its first defeat in’ the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s winter mixed competition at Wilding Park on Saturday. University A, which has not lost a match but which has one to play, beat Beckenham by 5 matches to 1. Three teams—University A, University B and Beckenham—are now in the lead University B, North Linwood and c outh Christchuich also won on Saturday. Po nts are:—University A 5, University B 5, Beckenham 5, North Linwood 3, St. Albans 2, South Christchurch 2, Barrington 2, Linwood Avenue 0. Linwood Avenue has two matches to play .and University A and Barrington have one match to play. Results:— Barrington v. University B Men’s Singles.—R. Smith lost to G. Bryant, 0-6, 3-6; C.
