Qualifying Events Held At Timaru (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU. June 22. The ploughman “homeward plodded his weary way” from Mr A. F. Hayman’s property, “Northdown,” Kellands Hill, on Saturday—but with a sense of achievement. Winner of the Atlantic Silver Plough qualifying event was Mr R. M. Kingsbury (Ashburton). Mr H. A. Magson (Rakaia) was second and Mr W. A. Simpson (Oamaru) third. There will be 22 entries in the New Zealand qualifying events to be held at Mr W. E. Hazlett’s property, “Lorneville,” Invercargill, on July 26. The International finals will take place at Stuttgart (Germany). In addition to the qualifying events held on Saturday under the auspices of the Timaru Ploughing Match Association, there were six other classes and two classes of dog trials. The attendance at this, the thirty-fourth, annual ploughing match was good and conditions were excellent. The secretary, Mrs J. D. McPhedran, of Hadlow, said that a Royal Ploughing Match would be held at Timaru during centennial year and there might also be an Atlantic Silver Plough qualifying event.
