minor Fires at WEEK-END
Brigade Answers Six Calls
Six minor fires, none of which caused serious damage, were attended by units of the Christchurch Fire Brigade at the weekend.
At 11.25 a.m. on Saturday, a fire in a house at 52 Hollyford street caused slight damage to the furnishings and carpets in one room. One unit from St. Albans attended. The occupier is H. Baker. When an oven overheated in a house at 70 Palmers road, occupied by Mr I. J. Tooley, fire caused slight damage to an adjacent wall. One unit from New Brighton attended at 6.26 p.m. A motor-cycle, owned by Mr G. T. James, was extensively damaged when it caught fire near Harewood Airport at 7.57 p.m. One unit from Sockburn attended.
At 9.1 a.m. yesterday a chimney fire at 34 Radley street was attended by one unit from Woolston. No damage resulted. The house is occupied by Mr F. D. Harvey. A call to a chimney fire at 82 Cresswell avenue, a house occupied by Mr T. Cummings, was answered by units from the Central station and St. Albans at 2.50 p.m. There was no damage.
A detached wooden shed at 67 Arnold street, Sumner, was destroyed by a fire which started at 4.33 p.m. One unit from Woolston and one from Sumner attended. The property is owned by Mr R. G. Pimm.
