BRITISH AMATEUR STROKE PLAY
R. J. Charles Ninth (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright LONDON, June 22. The New Zealand amateur, R. J. Charles, finished ninth in the English amateur 72-hole stroke-play championship at Royal Birkdale, Lancashire, yesterday. After returning 78 on Saturday morning Charles was twelfth, but an afternoon round of 75 brought him up to ninth. The British Walker Cup player, Arthur Perowne, won the championship with a total of 279.
