The Chief of the Air Staff (Air Vice-Marshal C. E. Kay) made a farewell visit to the Royal New Zealand Air Force station yester- x day before his retirement at the end of the month. He was accompanied by Mrs Kay. Last I evening Air Marshal and Mrs Kay J were entertained at the officers’ ( and sergeants’ messes at Wigram. j Mr F. F. Reid, S.M., has been appointed to act as chairman of the Local Government Commission, as deputy to Mr A. A. McLachlan, S.M., until October 31. Lieutenant-Colonel L. A. Kermode, commandant at Burnham Military Camp for the last two years, has been appointed DeputyQuartermaster General at Army Headquarters in Wellington Major V. G. Skilton has been appointed acting-camp commandant pending a permanent appointment. Dr. Keyes D. Metcalf, librarian emeritus of Harvard University, will arrive in Auckland on June 28. He will visit the four centres at the invitation of the Government and the United States Educational Foundation in New Zealand and meet library authorities and librarians. Dr. Metcalf, who row acts as a library consultant retired three years ago from the position of librarian of Harvard 1 College and director of libraries of n Harvard University. For 25 years before his appointment to Hari vard in 1937 he held senior posi1 tions in the New York Public 8 Library.—(P.A.) o Mr A. H. Strong, the Canter2 bury secretary-organiser for the 6 Public Service Association, has been appointed chief clerk at the association’s national office in ■s Wellington. He will replace Mr K A. B. Howie, who has resigned to s go into private business. y Mr P. J. O. Robinson, of Ash7 burton, was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand at a sitting of the Court in Christchurch this week.
