APPLE, HONEY MARKETS

With much heavier arrivals of apples from New Zealand, South Africa and Australia, plus sortie smaller quanties from the Argentine. the market in the United Kingdom eased in May, but now that the bulk of the South African fruit is off the market there has been a steady improvement in price and a brisk demand. The London office of the Bank of New Zealand, in its monthly report on this market, says that quotations for main varieties are from 39s to 43s per box. with Tasmanian Cox’s Orange bringing from 50s 6d to 58s.

The honey market is quiet, prices for New Zealand remain firm in spite of low prices offering for other origin. Quotations: New Zealand—Light amber 132 s 6d pCr cwt ex store (130 s a month ago); Extra light amber 141 s (138 s White clover 157 s 6d (1555). Australian—Light amber 95s to 97s 6d c.i.f. (97s 6d); medium amber. 87s to 89s <B9s). Argentine—Medium amber 105 s to 108 s 6d (108 s 6d). White Chilean has been sold in the United Kingdom on the basis of £9O a ton.
