Rugby Mathieson Out Of Maori Tour
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) NEWCASTLE, June 6. The Maori Rugby team’s threequarters, Dave Mathieson, is out of action for the rest of the Australian tour. A second X-ray- has revealed a serious fracture of the wristbone which Mathieson injured in the opening match of the tour at Canberra. The loss of Mathieson is a second serious blow to the tourists, as Bill Gray suffered a fractured leg in the South Harbour match last Saturday. The Maoris' back-line strength is now seriously affected, although the team manager, Mr Frank Kilby, will not seek' a replacement. Mr Kilby said today: “We have not thought about sending for a replacement yet. Our players are so versatile. For instance, if Phillips is not'fit to play against Newcastle tomorrow we could play Rheuben Walker, a forward, there. But we certainly cannot afford to lose any more players.” Henry Phillips, suffering from a bruised thigh, and Muru Walters, who suffered an ankle injury in the Barbarian game, are receiving treatment.
