THAR SHE BLOWS!
What does an umpire do when a women’s hockey goalkeeper nonchantly picks up the ball and throws .it back down the field? She awards a penalty bully. When such an incident occurred recently the umpire gave her the benefit of the doubt, because there had been a whistle on the adjoining field, and an on-side bully ensued. The only answer to this confusion on the nine grounds at Hospital Corner is to really blow the whistle, to leave no doubt whatsoever as to which whistle to obey. Both goalkeepers are entitled to hear the umpire’s whistle no matter where the umpire is on the field when she blows it.
