FIRE IN CITY FACTORY
Passer-By Gives Early Alarm
A factory fire was put out before it had a chance to become strongly established early yesterday morning when a newspaper runner for “The Press” gave the alarm.
Mr H. E. J. Clemens was passing the premises of Argyle Textiles, Ltd., at 579 Colombo street, at 3.30 a.m., when he noticed the fire in a sample room just inside the front door.
The Christchurch Fire Brigade put the fire out in a few minutes. The only damage was the charring of the walls and ceiling, and some of the samples, and cracked windows and skylights.
