PUNE LOGS FOR JAPAN

Big Order Placed In N.Z. (New Zeaiana Preu < Association) AUCKLAND, June 6. Thirty-six million feet of New Zealand radiata pine logs worth about £470,000 are to be purchased by Messrs Toyo Menka Kaisha, of Japan. This was announced at Tauranga by Mr O. Rainger, of Nuera, Ltd., Auckland. Shipment of the logs, which will come from forests in the Bay of Plenty and Taupo districts, will be made through the port of Tauranga. The first consignment of the new contract will be loaded at the Mount Maunganui wharf next month. Mr Rainger said chartered vessels would load the logs at Mount Maungauni every 21 days after the first shipment was dispatched in July. A total of 22 ships would be required to carry the legs contracted for by the Japanese company. Mr Rainger said the sale of the logs was the result of prolonged negotiations with the Japanese interests, suppliers, and others connected with the shipment Three shipments of pine logs have already been made from Tauranga. The first comprised about 60,000 ft sent by the Tenwa Maru last November. The Kowa Mani and Neiwa Maru together loaded 2,000,000 ft in March and April of this year. The Tenwa Maru is to sail tomorrow with a further 2,000,000 ft of log timber. These shipments are in addition to the new contract.
