Three 4-min Milers In Race
(Rec. 8 p.m.) COMPTON (California), June 6. Perfect conditions were forecast for the clash between Herb Elliott (Australia) and Ron Delany (Ireland) in the Compton Invitation athletic meeting’s “mighty mile” tonight. Clear weather is expected, with the temperature in the low 60’s The clay track was said to be “lightning fast” and the runners were fit. A field of six is due to start in the race. Three of them—Elliott (best time 3min 57.8 sec), Delany (3min 58.8 sec), and Lazio TaborL of Hungary (3tain 59sec)— have broken four minutes for the distance. The other three, all Americans. Jerome Walters. Max Truex, and Bob Shankland, have not.
