Study Of Former Football Players (Rec. 7 p.m.) CHICAGO. June 5. A continued programme of heavy exercise apparently helps protect persons against heart disease, the American Medical Association said today. The association, in its magazine “Today’s Health,’,’ reviewed results sho\vn. in a new study oi former Harvard football players. “One of the most significant findings was the apparent protection afforded by the continuation of a programme of heavy exercise,” the review said. “Those football players who maintained even moderate habits of exercise were less prone to coronary heari disease, and no individual in this study who maintained a heavy exercise programme happened to develop coronary heart disease.” The study was conducted by Di William C. Pomeroy, of” Los Angeles. and Dr Paul Dudly White, ot Boston. The study showed that former football players with coronary heart disease gained more weight than others. There’ were more divorces in the coronary group This “may or may not” represent a factor of stress, the doctors said There was a highe" percentage of family history of coronary heart disease in the coronary group than in the control group Smoking and drinking appeared to play no part in the development of heart disease.
Fighteru for Jugoslavs.— The Folland Aircraft Company today announced an order from the Jugoslav Government for two Gnat light-weight turbo-jet fighters. The aircraft, the first of which will be dispatched in about 10 days, will be given trials with the Jugoslav Air Force.—London, June 6.
