Unemployment In Britain
LONDON, June 6. Unemployment in Britain has climbed to the highest point for nearly five years and a half, Government figures disclosed last night. The Ministry of Labour said -that 448.000 people were registered as unemployed on May 12. the latest check date. This was the highest figure recorded since January, 1953, at the height of a textile recession, when the total was 452.000. Of those registered on the check date, 389.000 were wholly unemployed and 59,000 temporarily stopped from work.
