The Russian Government has sent a Note to Unlted sayhir that Russia agrees witif the American ‘suggestion °f there should be an international agreement to the for peaceful purposes ... In Wellington Mr Nash said. I me idea . . .” —News item. "Only for Peaceful Purposes” has such a' nice Comforting Sound about it, I think we might Use the Expression as a diplomatic Device . Much more than we do. It seems to strike the right Note, with which Nobody can decently disagree: “Only for Peaceful Purposes,” viz., O.P.P. Our Antarctic Researches, O.P.P. of course, Are intended solely to benefit Mankind—there Is ho Though of Rivalry, let alone armed Force— Well, not yet; it depends pn What we find there. It’s, all O.P.P. so fat- as We are concerned — Nothing to be gained, arid Everything to be learned. It’s the Same with our ri<?w Kindergarten Institute For Nuclear Hobbycrafts—it represents no Threat. At the Time of Writing, Nobody has tried to impute - Any sinister Purpose—though of course we have yet To hear “Pravda’s” Reaction! Every one of our tame Scientists can write D.Sc., 0.P.P., after his Name. And General (“0.P.P.”) de Gaulle is meanwhile saving France From the French, and the Rockpts go up from East and West— P.P.P., viz., Partly, Perhaps or Perchance For Peaceful Purposes, according to the Kind of lest. If we only agreed that the Whole of infinite Space Was strictly 0.P.P., there might be some Hope for our Race. And 0.P.P., be it understood, is why I confpose these Lines—it’s riot MY Resp6nsibility If some ill-disposed Joker should attemptto deny The Wisdom of my Writings of their Utility— He can see me outside the Buildings after we knock off Or, say, 6.10 p.m. any Day and 111 be O.P:P. only too happy to knock his contentious Block off.
