S.E.A.T.O. Exercise In Thailand

Five nations of the South-East Asia Treaty Organisation today began a week’s manoeuvres aimed at repelling a simulated invasion of Thailand, the American Associated Press reported from Bangkok. The problem called for a coun-ter-attack against invaders from three “enemy” nations who had thrust to within 80 miles of Bangkok. More than 3000 Thai troops were taking part, along with planes from the United States, ■ Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand. Observers from South Viet Nam. Laos, Nationalist China, and South Korea were watching the exercise. King Phumiphol Aduldet, of (Thailand, was scheduled to join his country’s ground force and jtake part as a foot soldier.
