PARISH LOANS OF £48,000
Church Property Trustees’ Grants Loans amounting to £48,000 for building projects in various parts of the diocese were approved at the March meeting of the church property Trustees of the Church of England, according to its journal, “Church and People.” The loans (each for a 30-year term) were:— z . St. Nicholas Church, Barrington Street. £lO,OOO to erect a new church. New Brighton. £6OOO -to build a church room at South Brighton. Opawa, £ 13,000 to erect a new church and a hall at St. Anne’s, St. Martin’s. Geraldine, £4500 to extend St Mary’s Church, Geraldine. Woolston, £7OOO towards the cost of erecting a new church of St. John the Evangelist. Shirley. £6500 to build a new church room at the corner of Hills road and Westminster street. Spreydon, an increase from £BOOO to £9OOO in the loan already granted to assist in meeting the cost of the new St. Martin’s Church, Spreydon. This will enable the tower to be faced in stone instead of finished in concrete. The Mt. Pleasant vestry was granted £550 from the church' extension fund set up by the Synod in 1956 to assist in the cost of a section, next to the church, for future expansion.
