ANTARCTIC-BORN RUSSIAN BOY
Ambition To Rejoin Ship (New Zealand Press Association) WELINGTON, April 11. In the Soviet Union there is a 12-year-old boy whose ambition is to become a whaling man and visit ..the Antarctic with the Russian whaling fleet. He is working hard at the academy'where he is being trained in seamanship against the day when he can join the Slava and return to his place of birth. He was born on the whaling fleet’s mother ship, Slava, on its first voyage to the southern whaling grounds. According to an official on the whaling ship, several children have been born to married couples in the Slava’s crew during its southern voyages.
One child born on one of the whaling trips was named Antarctic.
