THE Elder Chair of Pure and Applied Mathematics falls vacant at the end of this year on the retirement of the present professor, and the University invites applications for SEPARATE CHAIRS in PURE MATHEMATICS and in APPLIED MATHEMATICS from January 1. 1959. At this stage it is not proposed to establish separate Departments but to retain a single Department of Mathematics.
