CUMBER LOST ON RUAPEHU
Swiss Migrant Took Wrong Route (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, April 8. Opened last Saturday, the Wanganui Tramping Club’s new hut on the Raetihi side of Mount Ruapehu was a haven for a lost climber on Sunday night. A recent arrival from Switzerland climbed to Crater lake in ideal weather but took a wrone direction when returning down the valley. When he realised his mistake he tried to work his wav around towards the Chateau, but found his way blocked by snowfields, deep gorges and waterfalls Eventually he was found by Wanganui Tramping Club members. He was taken to their new hut. where he spent the night. Two tramping club members made a fast trip by torchlight to Horopito, where the Chateau was informed of the tram per’s safety
