UNEMPLOYED IN U.S.
“Number Still Rising” WASHINGTON, April 4. The United States Government reported today that unemployment still was rising at the end of March—a reversal of the normal seasonal trend. The Labour Department said unemployment benefit claims filed by newly paid-off workers had risen to 421,900 last week, an increase of 12,500 over the previous week. These claims usually are considered a reliable index to the employment situation. League Team Change. S. Little, the Oldham second-row forward, has withdrawn from the Rugby league tour of Australia and New Zealand for business reasons, it was announced today. He has been replaced by B. Edgar, of Workington Town.— London, April 5.
