The wages commission ot the Metal Workers’ Union in Gelsenyesterday rejected as too low an employers* offer of a 5.33 per cent, increase for time workers and 4.33 pet cent, for piece workers. . Union leaders, who demanded a 10 per cent, rise, immediately formed a strike committee and began making final preparations for a strike. The North Rhine Westphalian 1 Labour Minister, Mr Heinrich jHemsath, said later that, he would Receive an employers’ delegation tomorrow to see if they would increase their offer. The Ruhr iron and steel industry produces more than 90 per cent, of the whole West German output and a strike would cost it an estimated £2sm a week.
