FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT
Situation: An anti-cyclone covering the North Tasman Sea is almost stationary. A depression in the south Tasman Sea is moving south-east and the associated cold front is ' expected to move north-eastwards over much of the South Island during the day. Forecast:— West Coast: Moderate northerly winds at first, but southwesterlies developing later; a period of rain spreading from the south; temperatures moderate. Outlook scattered showers. Nelson: Light to moderate northerly winds predominating: mainly fair and mild, but some brief rain this evening. Outlook: fair. Marlborough: Winds mainly moderate northerlies or < north-westerlies, but southerlies developing on the Kaikoura coast late in the day: mainly fair, but some brief rain iater today; temperatures mild. Canterbury: Moderate easterly to northerly winds and fair weather at first; south-west winds, with a brief period of rain spreading or. to South Canterbury late this morning and on to North Canterbury this afternoon, but weather improving again later; mild at first, but becoming cooler. Outlook: mainly fair.
