MR KRUPP IN WELLINGTON

Hurried Visit To Capital (N«W Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 4. Mr Alfred Krupp, the German industrialist, began his hurried visit to Wellington tonight. He arrived at Faraparaumu airport at 3.30 p.m. from Christchurch. His name was not on the flight passenger list. He stepped from the aeroplane and walked quickly to a large black car which was flying the flag of the West German Republic. As the car left the airport it was followed closely by a smaller car carrying a plainclothes detective. In Wellington, neither the police nor the German Legation would disclose Mr Krupp’s whereabouts and the receptionist at the city hotel where he is staying had apparently been instructed to foil any atempts to see Mr Krupp. It is thought possible that Mr Krupp, while in New Zealand, will offer to invest in the £25 million-scheme of the New Zealand Development Corporation for developing the country’s iron and steel industry. Mr N. J. R. Scollay, managing director of the corporation, when asked tonight if Mr Krupp had offered to invest with the corporation, said: “Not as far as 1 know. We have not got in touch with him and there have been no overtures from his side. The reaction to any offer from Mr Krupp which might be made would be that it came two years too early.” During Mr Krupps arrival and journey into Wellington there were no signs of any demonstrations siijiilar to those experienced by him on his Australian tour. Last night, however, police entered into a scuffle with a band of people who were endeavouring to paste “anti-Krupp” posters an Willis street.
