Petrol Tax
Sir,—l wonder whether Mr Watt and his advisers have thought of the effect of a rise in petrol duty on the cost of production of butter, cheese, meat, etc. The increase would cover a very wide extra cost, the tractor on the farm, the transport of stock, the collecting of cream, and the transport of everything that needs shifting, whether by a contractor or private truck. Just at present, when the Government is callin’ out for a reduction in the costs of production, does not seem the time to raise the duty on petrol. —Yours, etc., . „ TRACTOR. April 2, 1958.
