Swimming MANAGER FOR CARDIFF
Mr F. W. Roe Appointed Mr F. W. Roe was appointed manager oi the New Zealand swimming team to the Empire Games at Cardiff at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association’s council last evening. Mr Roe. who was nominated by the Waikato centre, is the father of Marrion Roe, the New Zealand Olympic swimming representative in 1956. Six nominations had been received from centres for the position of manager. Before the appointment was mad ?, the council discussed at j length whether a man or woman manager should be appointed. The Auckland Swimming Centre will be advised that if it can raise £990 the council will guarantee a further £lOO for both Auckland -uimmers. Misses J. Hunter and K. Sawvers, to travel to Cardiff. “I feel quite sure Auckland will raise the money to send both these girls overseas, and, considering that we must find £lOO for each of our four swimmers in the first 37, it is reasonable that a further £lOO be guaranteed to both these girls, who were considered to be up to Empire Games standard,” said Mr Donaldson.
