INCREASE IN TARIFF Reminder : All consumers are reminded of the published notice, dated 18th December, 1957, that electricity charges will be increased as from Ist February, 1958, and shown on accounts normally read on and after the Ist April. 1958. The Reason : The principal reason for the new charges is the advance in price of Bulk Electricity. Added to this is the M.E.D.'s own rising costs. Inevitable : In all the circumstances the rise on 1953 prices is inevitable. That they have been held down so long has been to consumers' benefit The M E.D. nevertheless regrets the necessity to so increase the price, but it is preferable to have adequate supply instead of recurring restrictions and shortages. Service : The M.E.D. will maintain its former policy of good service to all consumers. Electricity may not be as cheap as formerly but nothing compares so favourably in cleanliness and convenience and for its many versatile uses, it is still comparatively cheap.
