Forest Fire Danger
A fire danger exists in the four main forests in Canterbury. It is the result of the period of hot, dry weather. At the headquarters of the New Zealand Forest Service in Christchurch yesterday a report was received from an observation station at Balmoral emphasising the serious Are danger. Similar reports were received from Ashley and Eyrewell. The last appreciable known rainfall in anv one of these areas was on March 17. rhe senior ranger for the service in Canterbury (Mr C. O. Bridgeman) said that much of the “fuel” in the forest was still green, but that did not stop it from burning. If the north-west conditions continued, persons in forest areas should take the utmost care.
