TWO-YEAR-OLDS TESTED
Five-Furlong Trials At Riccarton Brummel, Romancing, Rustic, ■ Ghana, and Allemande showed' speed in five-furlongs trials for; two-year-olds from the Wood | starting gates at Riccarton yes-■ terday. Brummel and Rustic are engaged in the Champagne Stakes, on the first day of the Canter-1 bury Jockey Club’s meeting next Monday. Ending the first trial for the ’ two-year-olds. Brummel w*as shading Romancing. Rustic was third and Waterfall was a close fourth. Next, in a gap were Ruve, < Jimmy Hill, and Foxplay. Brummel. a grey gelding by Defaulter from Soncy, has had tw’O races for Mr H. D. Greenwood. and has won one of them. He was successful in the Bradley Handicap at the Banks Peninsula meeting on March 1, and has not raced since. Rustic w’as twice placed over six furlongs—Braganza won both races—at Trentham last month. She was a strong finisher each time and if she races up to that form on Monday few should beat her. Ghana and Allemande. the first two home in a smaller field in' the second trial for two-year-olds,, are not engaged in the Cham- : pagne Stakes, but will race later i at the meeting.
