PRODUCTION IN BRITAIN
Increase For Year Of 6 Per Cent. (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright' LONDON, March 31. Britain last year produced goods and services valued at £l9,lBBm—an increase of nearly 6 per cent, on the output of the previous 12 months, the Government said today. Preliminary estimates of national income and expenditure, issued two weeks before the annual Budget, showed that wages and salaries also rose by 6 per cent, in 1957. Personal savings reached the record level of more than £ 1600 m. The total bill for alcoholic drink and tobacco rose by £79m sterling to £ 1909m.
