WEST SUMATRA INVADED
Important Town Captured (Rec. 10 p.m.) NEW YORK. April 1. Indonesian Government forces had invaded West Sumatra and captured a key town 60 miles from the rebel capital of Bukittinggi. the Indonesian Army headquarters at Jakarta announced today, the United Press reported. A Government announcement said loyal army forces had seized Bangkinang four days ago. It said there was no rebel resistance. Army troops were moving in a pincer manoeuvre against rebelheld Padang and Bukittinggi. Sungailangsat, a town 65 miles from Padang. had also been captured, the Central Government claimed. The United Press said the capture of Bangkinang cut the road connecting Padang and Bukittinggi with Pakanbaru and the oil town of Djambi. The rebels have claimed gains against Government forces in counter-attacks east of Bukittinggi.
