RACING Cheyenne’s Brilliant Six-Furlong Trial

Cheyenne shaded Purser in a brilliant six-furlong trial on the plough at Riccarton yesterday, attracting further attention to his fitness for the Great Easter Handicap next Monday. Cheyenne (W. Hanlin) held a slight advantage over the last half furlong and won the trial by a head from Purser (R. W. Gould). They sped over the distance in Imin 14sec, the last half 'mile in 49 3-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 37 l-ssec.

They recorded 38 2-5 for the last three furlongs. Teaka (A. J. Stokes) and Olympic Flame (N. Eastwood) could have bettered their 133 for seven furlongs. The pace was not strong early, but they ran the last half-mile in 51 1-5. Teaka continues to make pleasing progress in preparation for the Great Autumn Handicap. The stablemates, Avenge (N. Cowles) and Bagman (B. S. Dodds), ran six furlongs in 1.19 4-5. quickening for the last three furlongs in 38 4-5. Vivien Leigh <J. Beck) led Dower (G. W. Mein) by half a length, and Golden Ribbon (J. Pack Drill (G. W. Mein) worked sluggishly and was three lengths behind Scotch Emblem <N. A. Dempsey) finishing seven furlongs in 1.30 2-5, the last halfmile in 50. Money-Go-Round <N. Eastwood) was keen to increase speed near the end of a good ninefurlong trial with Neptune’s Pride (A. H- Eastwood). They ran the distance in 1.56 3-5 and the last mile in 1.43 4-5. Meteorologist (G. A. Campbell ) joined in for the last seven furlongs. They recorded 50 4-5 for the last halfmile. Massive (J. Beck) led Mozart (R. J. Blair) by two lengths after running seven furlongs in 1.28 2-5. They sped over the first half-mile in 50 4-5. Panda (N. Eastwood) and Lucky Time (J. Beck) followed in 130 2-5, the last half-mile

taking 50 3-5 and the final three furlongs in 38 2-5. Panda finished clear of her companion. Bosky (R. E. Johnstone) and Lammas (T. Wilson) ran a mile in 1.46 3-5, the last half in 51 1-5. Steadfast (G. Baldwin) and Masai <T. Wilson) also recorded 1.46 3-5 tor their mile and 51 for the last half-mile. Steadfast worked keenly. Post CD. J. Thistoll) and Super Tone (G. G. Hampton) sprinted six furlongs in 1.17 4-5. slackening speed slightly in the straight after running the opening three in 38 2-5. Lightning Boy (Miss F. Kerr) and Fern (J. Beek) sprinted seven furlongs in 131 2-5, the last four in 50 2-5 and the final three in 37 3-5. The two-year-olds. Pinnace (B. W. McDonald) and Blonde Sprite (W. Gibbs) sped home from the half-mile in 47 3-5, the last three furlongs in 35. They will both represent Mr W. H. Williamson in the Champagne Stakes. Summer's End (R. L. Browning), a dashing novice hurdler, kept up a strong pace in his run over four flights.
