Control Of Oak Leaf Miner
Oak, sycamore, beech and linden trees in Christchurch have been seriously disfigured in recent years by the oak leaf miner, the larvae of the small moths burrowing into the leaves and causing, in some cases, complete defoliation. The Cawthron Institute has been working on a means of controlling the pest, and the Christchurch City Council recently received from the institute a small parasitic wasp (apanteles circumscriptus. Nees) which has been liberated in the Botanic Gardens. More wasps will be liberated as they .are received.
